Welcome to my new website
Greetings folks,
Welcome to the new website. Thank you for being here. Please take a moment to explore what’s new and what’s been saved and updated since then. I suspect the website will be a work in progress for the next few months. Your comments and thoughts are welcome.
Going forward, I plan to use this blog space to share about fellow survivor advocates who’ve been impacted by trauma, abuse, or mental health challenges and injuries. Sharing the creative works and advocacy of others, or those of their respective organizations or agencies, has long been a guiding principle of mine, e.g. The Surviving Spirit Newsletter.
I’m honored to introduce you to Becky Perkins, Director of Survivor Resiliency at SurvivorSpace: Resources & Healing for Child Sexual Abuse and the Zero Abuse Project - Building a world where every child is free from abuse.
Becky is also a writer and shares the Language of Survival - Exploring how we talk about sexual violence newsletter at LinkedIn. A recent post by Becky, Sexual violence doesn't just happen. Neither does survival is a powerful piece of writing and she says a lot in a short space.
She also has an essay and a poem in the newly published book, Making Space for the Light: Documenting the Violence that Shapes the Lives of Women and Girls (Survivors’ Voices: Documenting the Ways that Violence Shapes the Lives of Women and Children)
Making Space for the Light embodies the belief that our stories, when written and shared, have the power not only to shift what we understand as possible, but to transform what is in fact possible. As Pat Schneider wrote in How the Light Gets In, “When we write, we create, and when we offer our creation to one another, we close the wound of loneliness and may participate in healing the broken world.”
