“One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.” Bob Marley
Last night I participated in a radio show that focused on the power of music and healing from childhood sexual abuse. As true with all conversations, it went off track for a bit…but that’s life.
I believe very strongly that music has the power to help us heal, no matter what we are dealing with. Whether we are a practicing musician or a passive listener, it doesn’t matter. Music has that special ability to lift us out of what we are struggling with. It may not offer a cure to life and all of its travails…but it sure does help. I feel the same way for all of the creative arts – in all of their forms…It is so important that we follow our creative muse…we don’t have to be a professional to do this – we are all creative and we all deserve to shine…and through music and the creative arts, we can and we do!
As a young boy, listening to music gave me an escape from an oppressive home life…as an adolescent and adult – becoming a musician gave me a sense of purpose & focus, self-esteem, a sense of belonging and so much more. I will always be grateful for the gifts of music.
How has music or the creative arts helped you in your life? Please let me know via the contact form…. Thanks & take care, Mike
