Links and Resources

Hi,

First off, thanks for visiting the website and please keep checking it out. More music, links, and resources are going to be continually added on. A word of caution or disclaimer regarding the links and resources. I personally check on, review, and like these links. Some of you may not, but as the saying goes. "Take what you like and leave the rest". For those who deal with trauma and abuse concerns, some of the information may be triggering and upsetting to you. Be good to yourself and go slowly.

Take care, Michael Skinner

Famous People With A Mental Health Concern/Illness

NOTE: All of the names listed below have PUBLICLY acknowledged & admitted to their struggles with mental health concerns/mental illness as a means to help others and themselves. This list is used in many publications to help fight the stigma and discrimination that takes place around those effected by a mental health concerns/mental illness and thus keeps them from getting help, treatment and understanding they need and deserve. I did not compile this list ... national advocacy organizations and part of the government dealing with mental health issues compiled these names to help inspire hope to others so they will seek help and to realize that they are not alone in their struggles.

MIKE'S RECOMMENDED READINGS:
Many times I have been asked by people "How do you do it?", "What's your secret?", etc, in regards to how, as a survivor of extreme and perverse childhood sexual abuse, a lifetime of trauma and abuse, a horrific and cruel divorce, the stigma and discrimination of mental illness, etc. It's no secret, no silver bullet involved, just perseverance, faith [though it does disappear at times], and the support and the friendship of some truly great people. This helps sustain me when the clouds of despair and the sad reality of society's general apathy in it's blatant disregard for so much of humanity can cause me to want to walk away from it all. I disagree vehemently with the statement, " That which doesn't kill you, only makes you stronger". I find that to be a false statement. All it does is take another piece out of you and your spirit, your soul. Yet we do survive, battered and bruised, and these books have helped me in trying to understand that which does not make sense. By no means is this list representative of all that I have read. Yet, they have been so helpful in my walk through life. Take care, Mike
